What is Journey With Jesus (Children’s Liturgy of the Word)? After the opening prayers, the celebrant invites the children in Preschool – Grade 1 forward to send them forth for their own special “Liturgy of the Word” in the OLR Chapel. They pray the psalms, hear the Gospel, participate in an interactive reflection on the Gospel, and share in the Prayers of the Faithful. A collection basket is passed if the children would like to bring any spare change. Two children are selected to carry up this collection basket during Offertory. The children return to their families during the Preparation of the Gifts.
What are the benefits of having a Children’s Liturgy of the Word? While the adults and older children hear the word of God proclaimed and the homily helps them reflect upon its meaning for their lives, the younger children also listen to God’s word and ponder its meaning, but in a way designed especially for them, allowing them to respond in a way relevant to their young lives.
What if I am interested in leading or assisting a Children’s Liturgy of the Word? We welcome those who are interested in serving in this role! Leaders and assistants for Journey With Jesus will be assigned to the Mass time convenient for their families. Three teams rotate each month and all materials are provided. What if my child is apprehensive about going to Journey with Jesus? We welcome parents to accompany their young child to Journey with Jesus. There are always 2 adult leaders and a few teen helpers, but if you feel your child if anxious or needs extra supervision, please come and sit with them during Journey with Jesus.
