Procedures for Return to Sacramental Life – Church of the Resurrection
We will return to in person Masses beginning Monday, May 25th. All daily Masses will be held in the main sanctuary. We will follow our normal daily Mass schedule, Tuesdays at 7pm, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 9am.
Our weekend Mass scheduled will be Saturday at 5pm, Sunday at 9am and 11:30am. Please note the time change for the 11:30am Mass. We will need extra time to clean, disinfect and sanitize between Masses.
The Bishop published a letter dated May 13th which states that “All Catholics in the Diocese of Columbus are dispensed from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass at least through September 13, 2020.” If you are in one or more of the “high risk” categories, it is still too early to come out. And, of course, if you are experiencing any signs of illness, you have a serious obligation to stay at home. Given that the obligation is dispensed, individuals who wish to participate at Mass and receive Holy Communion might consider coming at a less crowded time, perhaps during the week.
We will still continue to live stream daily Masses and the 11:30am Sunday Mass.
The Liturgy committee has met and reviewed the guidelines for Returning to Mass that the Bishop has laid out. Please read below some of the changes that will be happening at Mass.
Due to the Safe Distancing guidelines that have been put out by the CDC we will need to alter the amount of people that are able to fit in the church. We are estimating that 300 people will be able to attend each Mass. In order for us to ensure proper distancing we are asking for everyone to use the main church doors to enter so we can tally the amount of people in the building. Once the capacity is reached we will have a small amount of overflow in the OLR Chapel. These numbers will allow us to accommodate the congregation with safe distancing practices in place.
We will need to be flexible with last minute changes to schedules, and further changes may be necessary even after we begin. Please be respectful of the guidelines for social distancing and please understand that when the Church has reached capacity allowed for health and safety reasons, we cannot admit any more people under any circumstance.
These changes are difficult. Please be patient and flexible as we learn to live with these limitations from the pandemic.
Maintain at least six feet with anyone who is not from your household while in the Church.
Wear a mask (as per the CDC guidelines) while in Church. We will have a very limited supply of masks on hand if you arrive without your mask.
Practice strict hand hygiene before and after Mass. Limit what you touch with your hands. We will have hand sanitizer but if you are able please bring your own.
Refrain from using the bathroom except for emergencies only.
Every other pew will be roped off and we will be limiting how many can sit in each pew. If you are attending with a member of your household you may sit closer than the 6ft requirement but if you are attending by yourself we are asking that you maintain the 6ft distance.
Singing during Mass has been discouraged.
Missalettes and Gather books have been removed from pews as well as other materials in the Church.
Collection baskets will be placed at the doors for parishioners drop in their offertory.
Holy Communion in the hand is strongly encouraged. During communion we ask that you wait to be dismissed from your pew and keep your mask on until you reach the front. Please follow the “crosses” on the floor to ensure proper distancing to the person in front of you. Please adjust your mask immediately before receiving communion.
After Mass is over you may exit the north side doors to allow for less congestion in the main aisle. Please exit the Church immediately and do not linger in the gathering space. Continue to practice social distancing while in the gathering space and outside the church.
If you would like to sign up for Altar flowers please call the office as the book has been removed.
Again, THANK YOU for your patience and flexibility with these new procedures. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the office at 614-855-1400.
