Meet Sue White!

Posted on Wed, Aug 28, 2013

Name: Sue Wiechart-White (otherwise known as 1/3 of “the Whites”)

Choir Member since : 94 or 95 I think –you’ll have to ask Dana I never remember numbers and dates

Personal History: I met Dana at Musicians Rehearsal at St. Thomas More in Bowling Green Ohio. While our going out for a beer after that rehearsal resulted in several months of dating others, we stayed in the same Musicians Group and in July went out after Mass (because neither one of us had anyone else to go with) and got engaged in September, married the following September and the rest as they say is history. During that time we played and sang with Chris and Joan Bare and are so happy to be doing that again here at COTR. I have a great stepdaughter Heather, a fantastic son in law Bill, our wonderful son David and two beautiful grandchildren Megan and Andy. I spent my entire professional life in middles school (along with other grade levels sometimes) which should tell you something about my attention span. I taught at Sacred Heart Elementary in Fremont, Ohio; Gateway Middle School in Maumee, Ohio and finally spent 19 years at Bexley Middle School. I’m now retired, but my retirement after 33 years of teaching includes playing for several school choral programs (with former students who are now fantastic music teachers) as well as COTR and organizing the Bexlely Choral Society

Why did you join?: I have a very difficult time worshiping “in the pew”. I’ve been a church musician since I was in the 8th grade and I focus on my prayer best as a music minister. When Dana and I came to COTR we both added as guitarists. Tim Palmer was the choir director and Jim Shaw was the accompanist.

Music Background: Bachelor of Music Education BGSU, Master of Music Education program U of M.

BGSU: A Cappella Choir, Women’s Chorus, Folk Ensemble, Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas, West Side Story, Sound of Music, Oliver, Little Shop of Horror, Hello Dolly . Pre-Reg Show with “Ridge Street Project”

Crowswell Opera House: Into the Woods, Man of La Mancha

Keyboard Player in Living Water

Organist: St. Patrick Catholic Church Spencerville, Ohio

Guitarist Singer: St. Thomas More University Parish Bowling Green, Ohio

Director of Music/Conductor Adult Choir: Sacred Heart Parish, Fremont, Ohio

Director of Music/Pianist; St. Andrew Catholic Church Saline, Michigan

Favorite COTR Memory : I have to give several sorry 1. Thom Wyatt saying he would stay just long enough to “get us through Easter” 2. The joint Mass with the Notre Dame Folk Choir 3. Fr. Tom Petry literally dancing down the aisle during an Extreme Faith Mass 4. Going with Dana White, Thom Wyatt and others (sorry I don’t remember who else) to work with Jeanne Cotter 5. The dedication Mass for our new church 6. The first time Thom Wyatt gave David White a shaker part to “Sing to the Mountains” when David was 6. I had to listen to and play that song about 4,000 times that week so he could be ready to play on Sunday. 7. Lastly the time the police came to get me out of a Saturday evening Mass because David got knocked out in a hockey game at the Chiller, the squad was with him and he was not “coming to” It worked out OK!

Favorite Pieces : Carols of the Night, As a Deer Craves Running Water, the Lords Prayer almost anything that is for Advent or involves a cello part for Robin Cooldige and I just have so much fun playing We Are The Light of the World. And there are many more to come.
