  • Even though we aren't currently volunteering on build sites, we continue our work to support Habitat's mission. We thank you for your continued prayerful support and look forward to when we again will be donning hard hats and tool belts. In the meantime, stay connected and see what's new.

Our Habitat ministry and the COTR youth group will be working together on a new fundraising event, Project Playhouse. Volunteers will work 5-6 hours to build a custom playhouse for families in need. The playhouses are designed to teach young children the pride and joy of home ownership.

Here is Mid-Ohio’s description of this initiative launched late last year:

"Playing house” is often the first time a child starts to think about what a home means to them. Once a sponsor commits to building a playhouse, Habitat matches them with a local family and provides an interest summary that will help the build crew design a one-of-a-kind playhouse.

On the build day, Habitat captains guide the sponsor volunteers through the entire construction process. Habitat provides all the materials such as paint, paintbrushes, rollers, tools, protective paper/plastic, and cleanup supplies. Playhouses are presented to the children at the end of the build day. Funds raised from the sponsor donations go towards building new (full-sized) houses right here in Central Ohio.

Church of the Resurrection also signed up to participate in the Project Playhouse Blitz Build which will be held at Huntington Park in downtown Columbus on September 10-11. We'll be one of 40 partners (20 each day) and are tentatively scheduled for the 11th. Save the date and watch for sign-up opportunities soon!

Donation to Hope for Humanity Fund: Providing Basic Human Needs

Our local Habitat chapter, like most other organizations, was impacted financially by the the COVID pandemic shut-down. Having to suspend build operations and close ReStores triggered the loss of considerable funding, and that directly impacts the chapter's ability to serve families. The Hope for Humanity Fund was created to help bridge the gap and be prepared when things are back to normal. This effort will allow the MidOhio team to quickly ramp up programs, and the ReStores, to mitigate the loss experienced by partner families and staff affected by job loss or illness.

So, though our ministry was not able to volunteer in-person, we were able to offer a $20,000 donation. It was received with much appreciation. MidOhio’s leader E.J. Thomas commented, "we want to ensure that when we come out of this terrible time that have the resources ready to continuing serving low-income families in need...I am beyond humbled."

    Habitat ReStores Back Open!

A great way to support Habitat (and the earth) is to donate or shop at one of the three Central Ohio ReStores. For more information, go to https://www.habitatmidohio.org/restore/overview.html.

  • Get Involved!

When I signed up for a day with Habitat, I was checking off an item on my "Bucket List". Little did I know the adventure was just beginning. I am on my 8th day now and am loving it. I came to help build a house but after meeting the family at the site, I quickly realized we were building a home! Everyone is patient and you get on the job training for the daily assignments. I have decided that I really like working with power tools.

    • Our Mission

The Habitat for Humanity ministry will build on the mission of the church by providing outreach and opportunity to those who need physical shelter. By doing so, our Parish works as a community of God her on earth by providing financial, physical, emotional, and prayerful support to many in need.

In this mission we will achieve the following:

      • Strive to be primary sponsor on two houses a year- first starting in central Ohio and then exploring beyond our local community
      • Involve as many Parishioners as possible in this meaningful, life altering work
      • Use the many talents in our Parish to help us achieve the mission
      • Bring the light of Christ into the presence of those whom we serve
      • Build awareness in our Parish of the need for affordable housing and advocate for legislation that addresses this in conjunction with Habitat International.
    • Habitat for Humanity is a hand-up, not a hand-out

      • Families have to afford to pay mortgage
      • Families must assist with build
      • Families must attend Financial management classes
      • Positive results in mid-Ohio with low foreclosure rate
